One of the Giants’ biggest and most expensive offseason acquisitions will begin training camp watching from the sidelines.
Defensive tackle Damon (Snacks) Harrison — whom the Giants lured from the Jets with a five-year, $46.25 million deal in March — will begin camp on the physically unable to perform list when the first practice begins on Friday morning. The 27-year-old, who hasn’t missed a game in the last three seasons, is out with what new coach Ben McAdoo said was “some swelling in his knee.”
“It’s probably a combination of things over the years,” McAdoo said. “He’s had some procedures to his knee, so it may just be a reaction to some of the training he was doing when he was away from here.”
The Giants will also be without linebacker J.T. Thomas, who injured his hamstring in the spring, and defensive tackle Jay Bromley, who recently had bone spurs removed from his ankle.
The good news, McAdoo said, is that “We don’t think any of (the injuries) are extremely serious at this point.”
EASING IN
WR Victor Cruz (knee, calf) is likely to be limited at the start of camp, though he has recovered enough to avoid being placed on the PUP list. Just how limited he’ll be is still to be determined. “We’re going to look at these guys,” McAdoo said. “We want to look at them moving around first.” … McAdoo said he hopes to run a “real physical” training camp. The Giants’ first practice in full pads is expected to be Tuesday… In the event of inclement weather, practices will move indoors and will not be open to the public.
